July 2001

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM HUB LIONS CLUB — The Hub Lions Club would like to welcome you to our new Lions year. This promises to be a fun year and an exciting year for all of us Lions and those who will receive our services this year. Our new year officially begins with our installation of officers at Mickie’s Steak House on July 2!

MEET PRESIDENT DONNA SHUPE — Lion Donna joined Lionism in 1992 as a charter member of the Seguin Mid-Day Lions Club. She served as a member of the board of directors and membership chairman. When she married Lion Robert in 1994, she joined the Beaumont Founders Lions Club and served again as membership chairman. A year later, she found herself in Tyler and both were members of the Tyler Lions Club. She soon served as membership chairperson, third vice-president, second vice-president, first vice-president and was just two weeks away from serving as club president when she was transferred to Lubbock. Now, Lion Donna brings her excitement to the Lubbock Hub Lions Club where she is serving as the 2001-2002 club president. "This is a great club with great people and together, we can SERVE in some really great ways."

LIGHTING THE PATH TO SERVICE — The international theme for this year is "Lighting The Path To Service." Hub Lions will be using this them very prominently during the year. This focus will help emphasize our service commitment to others.

Each of us knows the Lions Clubs International motto, "WE SERVE." Yet, do we know our club’s purpose? What makes the Hub Lions Club different or better than the rest? Why are we here? We will be discussing this in our July meetings. Please share your ideas with President Donna. If we don’t have a purpose or a goal--it will not benefit us to know which direction the club is heading.

2001-2002 HUB LIONS CLUB GOALS:

• Define service projects and have a goal to work toward--rather than going in many directions.

• Maximize fund-raising efforts toward the goal of the service projects

• Increase membership. We need quality members!

• Increase fun, fellowship, and funds through an active tail twister!

• Each meeting will feature a program speaker on topics ranging from Lions Clubs International to entertainment to community information.

• Wear our club vests to show pride and commitment to the club.

• We will have separate board meetings at a location to be announced. These will be held at a separate time to allow for speakers and normal business during club meetings.

• Installations will be held for new members joining the club.

MEMBERSHIP MATTERS— Increased membership will be very important to our club during the 2001-2002 fiscal year. We will be introducing some special plans to add more service hearts and hands to our club in the next year. We are very fortunate to have quality membership--but adding quantity to our quality will provide Hub Lions Club with the ability to serve the area in many other ways. Please be thinking about someone you know who would make a great prospective member and bring them to one of our meetings soon!
